Awards at meets - The point system - End of Season Awards

WWe know this is all really confusing Especially for new parents/skaters...The best advice, is as the season progresses keep an eye on the points,

ask questions as you go, talk to your coach, and eventually it will start to make sense...

Your coach is your best resource!

The KSL point system
1st heat 1st = 45 2nd = 30 3rd = 15 4th = 10 5th = 5
2nd heat 1st = 30 2nd = 20 3rd = 10 4th = 5 5th = 3
3rd heat 1st = 15 2nd = 10 3rd = 5 4th = 3 5th = 1
First meet and last meet all heats same points
1st meet and last meet 1st = 30 2nd = 20 3rd = 10 4th = 5 5th = 3
Also if there is only one heat during an event
only 1 heat 1st = 30 2nd = 20 3rd = 10 4th = 5 5th = 3

Meet Awards

At each league meet  in each division/heat, 1st -3rd place earns medals, 4th and 5th earn ribbons, but they also earn points.

The points....

The top 5 placements in each heat, in each division, earns points.

These points are then posted for that meet.

If you'll notice, on the far right is also  "Total points."

After each meet their total points are re added...

***************************************

(examp.) (for our example we will use John Doe)

John skated standard senior men.

in Oct John placed 2nd in the long race (20 points) and 3rd in the short race(10points) = Oct 30 points

in Nov John placed 3rd in the long race (10 points) and 3rd in the short race(10points) = Nov 20 points

his points will look like

after November...

Standard Senior Men

Oct  Nov   Jan      Feb  Mar Team Total
John Smith 30 20       Skate 50

After January...

Standard Senior Men

Oct  Nov   Jan      Feb  Mar Team Total
John Smith 30 20 30     Skate 80

and so on...

0 will be displayed for skaters who have paid to compete but have not placed...

If the skater skates Novice too, novice points are tallied in the novice division.

Meet minimum and end of season

To be eligible for the "End of Season Awards" a skater must compete in that division the minimum # of events.

The meet minimum has traditionally been 5 meets (but has not been discussed yet this season.)

Any skater who does not skate a minimum of events will not be eligible for the "End of Season" awards.

This year we have 5 meets so the meet minimum may drop?????  Like I said It needs to be discussed.

"End Of Season Awards"

After all meets are skated...  all points are tallied

The names/points of those skaters who have not attended the minimum # of meets will be dropped.

Leaving only the names/points of the skaters who have competed in the minimum number of meets.

Their points will be re-sorted highest to lowest,  and this is how the end of season awards are decided.

So if John skated all the meets and is show in fourth place...

but two of the skaters with more points only skated 3 events... (If the meet minimum is 4 meets then)

John will actually place 2nd at the end of season awards....
